Janée Reeder
is an artist living and working in Dallas, Texas with her attorney
husband, Bart Reeder and three-year old Lhasa Apso, Maggie. She
paints, draws, sculpts, and teaches art. She has studied art in
the Dallas/Fort Worth area and West Texas (Abilene and Lubbock).
Her three most
influential instructors have been Kathy Cunning of Weatherford, Texas; Robert
Green of Abilene Christian University
of Abilene, Texas; and Hugh Gibbons of
Texas Tech University
of Lubbock, Texas. She has also studied privately under
Judy Sager, the Artist-in-Residence for the
Kimball Art Museum
in Fort Worth. She minored in Art at Abilene Christian University,
ultimately completing more hours in art than in her primary field of
study, Biology. She had begun graduate work in Art Education at
Texas Tech University when she was accepted to Law School, and chose
to pursue independent art study while obtaining her law degree.
Since earning her Jurisprudence Doctorate, she has taught art
in Texas public schools as she developed her natural artistic talents
and expanded her skills.
Her broad experience includes teaching art at various public school
levels, teaching private art lessons through Studio J and FunEd in Dallas,
and working at the Milan Gallery in Fort Worth as instructor and salesperson.
Currently, she teaches private lessons in Dallas through Studio J.
Her travels
have exposed her to Israel, Poland, the Czech Republic, Switzerland,
France and England. She also frequently visits Taos and Santa Fe,
New Mexico, to maintain a strong connection to current materials and
methods while also drawing inspiration from the local artists and atmosphere.
Her passion for art pervades her daily activities, leading her to recognize
subjects and unique images around her.
Janée's
style is representational expressionism, with subject matter focusing
primarily on architecture, still-life, floral, and figurative work.
Her style is characterized by a balance of loose and tight brushwork
and detailing. She strives to infuse her images with exciting color
combinations to convey her fascination with the effects created by light
on forms and interiors.
